【摘要】:Thistestmethodcanbeusedtodeterminethein-placedensityandunitweightofnaturalinorganicsoildeposits,soil-aggregatemixtures,orothersimilarfirmmaterials.Itisoftenusedasabasisofacceptanceforearthenmaterialcompactedtoaspecifieddensityorpercentageofamaximumdensitydeterminedbyatestmethod,suchasTestMethodsD698,D1557orD4253.TestMethodsD698andD1557requirethatmassmeasurementsoflaboratorycompactedtestspecimensbedeterminedtothenearest1gsothatcomputedwatercontentsanddensitiescanbereportedtothreeandfoursignificantdigits,respectively.Thisstandardisafieldprocedurerequiringmassmeasurementstothenearest5g.Assuch,watercontentcalculationsshouldonlybereportedtotwosignificantdigitsanddensitytothreesignificantdigits.Thistestmethodmaybeusedtodeterminethedensityandunitweightofcompactedsoilsusedinconstructionofearthembankments,roadfill,andstructuralbackfill.Thistestmethodoftenisusedasabasisofacceptanceforsoilscompactedtoaspecifieddensityorapercentageofmaximumdensityorunitweight,asdeterminedbyastandardtestmethod.Theuseofthistestmethodisgenerallylimitedtosoilinanunsaturatedconditionandisnotrecommendedforsoilsthataresoftorthatdeformeasily.Suchsoilsmayundergoavolumechangeduringtheapplicationofpressureduringtesting.Thistestmethodmaynotbesuitableforsoilscontainingcrushedrockfragmentsorsharpedgematerialswhichmaypuncturetherubbermembrane.Note18212;Notwithstandingthestatementsonprecisionandbiascontainedinthistestmethod,theprecisionofthistestmethodisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingitandthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandthefacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting.UsersofthistestmethodarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfensurereliabletesting.Reliabletestingdependsonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofthein-placedensityandunitweightofcompactedorfirmlybondedsoilusingarubberballoonapparatus.1.2Thistestmethodissuitableforuseasameansofacceptanceforcompactedfillorembankmentsconstructedoffine-grainedsoilsorgranularsoilswithoutappreciableamountsofrockorcoarsematerial.1.3Thistestmethodalsomaybeusedforthedeterminationofthein-placedensityandunitweightofundisturbedorinsitusoils,providedthesoilwillnotdeformunderthepressuresimposedduringthetest.1.4Thistestmethodisnotsuitableforuseinorganic,saturated,orhighlyplasticsoilsthatwoulddeformunderthepressuresappliedduringthistest.Thistestmethodmayrequirespecialcareforuseon(1)soilsconsistingofunbondedgranularmaterialsthatwillnotmaintainstablesidesinasmallhole,(2)soilscontainingappreciableamountsofcoarsematerialinexcessof37.5mm(1x00BD;in.),(3)granularsoilshavinghighvoidratios,or(4)fillmaterialscontainingparticleswithsharpedges.Forsoilscontainingappreciableamountsofparticlesinexcessof37.5mm(11/2in.),TestMethodsD4914orD5030shouldbeused.1.5T......
